Amy Szczepanski

Amy Szczepanski is a classically trained mathematician, with a background in non-commutative algebra, and received her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego in 2001. She is drawn to problems that combine mathematical ideas with visual representations, and has previously worked on projects dedicated to using high performance computing to visualize large data sets. Her research interests also include modeling data that comes from the passive observation of human activity. Outside the technical realm, she can often be found knitting, designing and sewing geometric quilts, trying to learn German, and photographing airplanes. She splits her time between Knoxville, TN and San Diego, CA.
