Zhengfan Yang
Zhengfan Yang started his career as a filmmaker in 2007, after he graduated from law school. Over the past ten years, he has made fiction films, documentaries, shorts, and video works. His films have been shown internationally in festivals including Locarno, Rotterdam, Vancouver, Warsaw, Nantes, Melbourne, Taipei, and Hong Kong, as well as in art galleries such as Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing), Museo Nazionale del Cinema (Torino), and Centro de Arte Contemporânea e Fotografia (Belo Horizonte). His received a Golden Leopard Award nomination from Locarno Film Festival (Filmmakers of the Present), a NETPAC award nomination from Rotterdam Film Festival, a Free Spirit Award nomination from Warsaw Film Festival, and a Jury Award from China Independent Film Festival. He is also the producer and cinematographer of two awardwinning documentaries by Shengze Zhu: Out of Focus (Cinéma du Réel, 2014) and Another Year (Visions du Réel, 2016). Zhengfan Yang lives in Chicago and is now developing his third feature film The Stranger, which received the Hubert Bals Fund script development support. The film is the last part of the Outsider Trilogy, following his previous two features Distant (2013) and Where Are You Going (2016).
