Brendamaris Rodríguez Vélez

Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

A multidisciplinary artist since 2009, Brendamaris Rodríguez Vélez obtained a BA in Art History from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. She pursued an MFA focused on drawing and painting, combined with performance art at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus, which she gave up to participate in Artistic Residencies, Exhibitions and Art Festivals on the Island, the United States, Europe and Latin America, such as the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico, Museum of Art of Ponce, Performance Art Studies Residencies, Performance Art Week in the city of Venice, Italy, Museum of Art La Nemudejar in Madrid, Spain and short film festivals such as Other Cinema in San Francisco, California, Cosmic Rays Film festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Athens International Film + Video Festival in Athens, Ohio and RIBALTA Film Festival in Vignola, Italy, where, along with her colleague the artist John Muse, she was awarded the Arrow award for best director for their collaborative short film giroscopio. Her work as an artist starts from a questioning through human gestures, the relationship that exists between subject and objects, and the limits between nature and artifice. Since 2011 she has directed the Visual Arts Program for the Non-Profit Organization Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico, she has also been part of the select group of artists to conduct educational workshops with impact on communities under the program MAC en el Barrio organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico. In addition to being an artist and educator, she has worked as a curator and cultural manager in collaboration with independent entities and projects in the area of ​​Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Artista Multidisciplinaria desde el 2009. Obtuvo un BA en Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayaguez. Cursó estudios de MFA enfocados en Dibujo y Pintura, combinado con arte performatico en La Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ponce, el cual desiste para participar en Residencias Artísticas, Exposiciones y Festivales de arte en la Isla, Estados Unidos, Europa y América Latina, tales como el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de Ponce, Performance Art Studies Residencies, Performance Art Week en la ciudad de Venecia, Italia, Museo de Arte La Nemudejar en Madrid, España y Festivales de cortometraje como Other Cinema en San Francisco, California, Cosmic Rays Film Festival en Chapel Hill, Carolina del Norte, Athens Internacional Film + Video Festival en Athens, Ohio y RIBALTA Film Festival en Vignola , Italia, en donde le fue otorgado junto a su colega e artista John Muse la premiación “Arrow” al mejor director por su cortometraje colaborativo giroscopio. Su trabajo como Artista parte de un cuestionamiento por los gestos humanos la relación que existe entre sujeto y objetos, y los límites entre naturaleza y artificio. Desde el 2011 dirige el Programa de Artes Visuales para la Organización Sin fines de Lucro Boys & Girls Club de Puerto Rico, también  ha formado parte del grupo selecto de artistas para trabajar talleres educativos con impacto a comunidades bajo el programa MAC en el Barrio organizado por el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico. Además de artista y educadora, se ha desempeñado como curadora y Gestora cultural en colaboración con entidades y proyectos independientes en el área de Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
